N.M. [ Niels Mogens] Bodecker was born January 13, 1922 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He studied and served in the military in Denmark during the 1930s and 1940s and published his first poetry and book illustrations there during the 1940s. N.M. Herman Robert Kraus was a cartoonist for national magazines, the author and illustrator of children's books. He was president of Windmill Books, Inc from 1965, and president of Springfellow Books from 1972.
